Telangana Sankranti Holidays Declared From January 11: According to the reports, the Education Department of the Telangana Government has declared Six Days holidays in view of the Sankranti Festival in the Telangana State.

According to the education department, the Telangana Sankranti Holidays will start from January 11, 2020, to January 16, 2020. That means it will be a 6 Days Holiday. They further said that these holidays will be for all the Government controlled and as well as private schools & colleges throughout Telangana State.

The authorities concerned also gave directions to the District Education Officers (DEO) to make sure that all the schools and colleges under the Govt and also private managements to get the notice and they should strictly follow it. However, some missionary schools in the Telangana State have been exempted from the Vacations as they were already given the Christmas holidays.

The state education department in its academic calendar stated that stern action will be taken against schools which run classes during holidays.

What is Sankranti?

It marks the transition of the Sun into Makara Rashi on its celestial path and the six-month Uttarayana period. Makara Sankranti is also called as Uttarayana – the day on which the sun begins his northward journey The traditional Indian calendar is based on lunar positions, Sankranti is a solar event. The date of Makar Sankranti remains constant over the long term, 14 January or occasionally, 15 January as the Sun begins to rise in Makara Rashi.
